What child doesn’t love the circus? However, you want to be careful when introducing a clown to your little one. This can end in disaster if your child bursts into tears at the first site of the rosey red cheeks and big hair.
Consider this spin on the Big Top Theme. Cancel the clown and go for a classic carousel inspired theme instead. It’s vintage, elegant and timeless. The clown, magician and tricks can be cheesy to a one year old who doesn’t understand what’s going on. He/she is probably already overwhelmed with all of the people in the room that they aren’t used to so why add the additional stress. Save yourself the consoling and money waisted on hiring a clown or magician to carry off this theme this time around.
My 17 month old little guy and I were recently at my cousin’s son’s 1st Birthday Party over the summer. She had the perfect venue for this party at Hempstead Lake Park in Long Island, New york. The backdrop was a real carousel; the famous and historic Heckscher Carousel to be exact. It’s vintage meets party at it’s finest – a quintessential walk out of a history book. This added a touch of elegance to a kids party.
Take a look at some of the pictures from the party! NOTE: I apologize in advance for the quality of of the images as they were taken while having fun running after a 1 year old with my iPhone camera.)
I loved the way she used the Lion’s den cart to store all the birthday gifts.
I also loved how she incorporated classic carnival snacks: cracker jacks, cotton candy, animal crackers etc.
The cake literally took that cake! Continuing the Big Top Carnival Theme.
Although the carousel at Hempstead Lake Park is no longer in service for
public use it was indeed the perfect back drop for family photos like
this photo of my son and husband below.
